The Greek spare parts distributor’s turnover rose from €17 million to €32 million between 2014 and 2018. Boosted by joining Nexus International, which gave it access to new premium brands (Valeo, NTN- SNR, Denso, NRF, Vernet and Dolz) it reached a portfolio of 35 equipment manufacturers. Following this, Viacar reviewed its computer system and enlarged its central warehouse in the suburbs of Athens that supports its two distribution sites (Lykovrysi and Thessaloniki). In 2019, the distributor will continue to invest to develop its business. "We will continue to broaden our product portfolio, launch a technical department and open additional storage space" says Kostas Daskarolis. On the other hand, Viacar’s vice president does not intend to develop the Nexus Auto garage network. And when we talk to the number two in the turbulent consolidating European market, he seems ready to evolve. “We are following with interest all the big moves in the sector. Although mature, our market is not yet ready. I cannot predict the future, but I think we will soon experience real changes in the structure of our business.”

Caution is requiredBut what about Inter Cars, the number five in Europe, who arrived in Greece in September 2017 and inaugurated in November 2018 a new site? "This is not the first foreign company to come to Greece. It is true that the main market players are sceptical about its chances of succeeding over the next few years. But, for the moment, it is still too early to see its real impact" he says cautiously. Faced with the incursion of manufacturers into the multi-brand market, the boss of Viacar is clear: "PSA and Ford launched their programmes in Greece. What concerns me most is that parts manufacturers are willing to help such projects. This is a direct attack for independent parts companies such as Viacar."Caroline Ridet

Iaponiki strengthens its leadership

Two new outlets opened (Ioannina and Kavala) this summer bring the total to 20 locations, the market leader and member of Temot continues to invest in its logistics (it also has a sales point and a central warehouse). Over the same period, they also inaugurated a training centre dedicated to their garages’ technicians.Iaponiki is therefore structured to maintain its leadership in the face of growing competition. One of its strengths is to have a long-standing network development strategy to today have with 34 garages with Bosch Car Service and Autofit Service. Its turnover should be approximately around €50 million (versus €43 million in 2016).
